The North Korean Foreign Minister arrived at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm in preparation for a historic meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.
Ri Yong-ho will be received during his stay in Sweden by his counterpart Margot Wallstrom with whom he will discuss the concerns of both parties.
According to some sources, “the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, the possible meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un and the fate of the Americans, detained in North Korea” would be on the agenda of the talks between the heads of the North Korean and Swedish diplomats .
Before leaving for Sweden, the North Korean Foreign Minister said that Pyongyang and Stockholm were in touch on a range of areas.
Meanwhile, the two-day visit by the top North Korean diplomat is reportedly being carried out as part of the preparations that should make the ground for a historic meeting between the US president and the leader of North Korea.
International media evoke the name of Sweden as a possible host of the meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.
This possibility, however, has not been confirmed by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ri Yong-ho is accompanied, while in Sweden, by Choe Kang II, Deputy Foreign Minister for North America.
No press conference has been scheduled following talks between Ri Yong Ho and Margot Wallstrom, but a press release is expected.
The European Union on Wednesday (March 14th) revealed that a parliamentary delegation of the bloc had met secretly with top North Korean officials 14 times in the last three years.
The European Union added that the purpose of these meetings was to convince Pyongyang to sit at the dialogue table about its nuclear program.
This revelation was made a few days after the White House confirmed Donald Trump’s green light for a meeting with the North Korean leader by the end of May.
