Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the “Astana” formula on Syria has proven its importance and that it helps a political settlement.
“Whoever wants to divide Syria into Emarat will not agree to the Astana talks,” Lavrov said at a meeting of foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran and Russia in Astana on Friday.
The Russian Foreign Minister:
“Whoever violates all international laws and violates Resolution 2254, clearly goes to divide Syria and change the regime.”
“The result will be the emergence of emirates dominated by foreign players rather than a very important state in the Middle East, and that does not welcome what we do in Astana and what we want to achieve.”
The ninth round of the Astana talks is scheduled for mid-May and will be announced in the joint statement following a meeting of the foreign ministers of the guarantor countries on Friday, a source told Sputnik.
A meeting of foreign ministers of the Guarantor States, Russia, Iran and Turkey, will be held in Astana on Friday. The ministers will discuss the results of a year of their partnership in resolving the Syrian crisis.
