According to Pyongyang, South Korea has asked the United States to withdraw its military from its country.
After the Korean War (1950-1953), under the pretext of the absence of an official and permanent peace agreement, the United States was able to deploy 28,500 military personnel on the Korean peninsula.
North Korea has repeatedly demanded that US troops leave the region, but this is the first time it says it is up to its southern neighbor.
The North Korean government newspaper Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday (March 14th) criticized the Washington-Seoul talks for organizing the joint maneuvers in April.
The two countries declared that they will announce, on March 18, the day marking the end of the Paralympic Games in South Korea, their decision on the exact date that these military exercises will take place.
The North Korean newspaper also condemned the US-South Korea talks on sharing the cost of deploying US military personnel on the Korean peninsula. According to the new decision of the two countries, they decided, after six rounds of negotiations, that South Korea will assume $ 900 million in deployment costs. This decision must be ratified by the South Korean Parliament.
The voices in Pyongyang are rising against Seoul / Washington maneuvering and sharing their military costs, as North Korea prepares to meet with US and South Korean leaders.
According to the announced agreements, the leaders of the two Koreas will meet in April. As for the meeting of American and North Korean leaders, it must take place in May.
