An armed individual attacked the residence of the Iranian ambassador in Vienna, the Austrian capital, on Sunday evening, 11 March.
The 26-year-old assailant tried to enter the residence of the Iranian ambassador to Austria, who was armed with a knife, and was shot dead by a soldier on the spot.
The soldier guarding the embassy was wounded in the arm before being transferred to the hospital.
The Austrian Ministry of Defense announced that the soldier first used the pepper spray against this individual before opening fire.
According to a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, he was a resident of Vienna, from the Austrian province of Tyrol.
The motives of the assailant are not yet known, but draconian security measures have been tightened around all diplomatic representations in Vienna.
This comes as a number of supporters of the sect Shirazi stormed on Friday, March 9, the Iranian Embassy in London. They broke the Iranian flag before being stopped by the police.
The Shirazi sect is also known as “British Shiites” and follows the teachings of Ayatollah Sadiq Shirazi.
