Al-Mayadeen correspondent said that the people of the city gathered in the Freedom Square in Afrin to receive the popular forces that entered the city. At the time of the transfer of the channel to the city in the north of Syria, the leaders of the Popular Forces were quoted as saying that thousands of fighters will be present on the Afrin fronts.
This reception comes one day after the deployment of more than 400 fighters from the Popular Forces on the fighting fronts in the city.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Turkish forces forced the Syrian army to withdraw after trying to enter Afrin, adding that Ankara will not allow any “militia to enter the city and we will prevent it,” and that “the Syrian forces withdrew from them after artillery shelling.”
As well as the Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Gawishoglu, who confirmed last Tuesday, that the Syrian army “has not entered the area of ​​Afrin and it is unclear whether to enter,” adding that “the Syrian government to a dilemma about Afrin.”
“If Syrian forces enter Afrin to protect Kurdish fighters, no one can stop the Turkish forces,” he said.
Ankara launched a military operation in January under the name “olive branch” against the Kurdish protection units in Afrin in northern Syria. The Turkish president said that “the process will continue until Manbaj and the Iraqi border.”
