Amnesty International has expressed grave concern at the recent death sentences against civilians tried in military trials
The organization reiterated its call to the Bahraini authorities to lift the latest death sentences against 6 civilians, including victims of enforced disappearance, Sayed Alawi Hussein and Fadel al-Sayyed Abbas in December.
The organization demanded that the case be transferred “to a competent ordinary court that meets international fair trial standards” and to exclude evidence obtained under torture.
On December 25, Bahrain’s military court issued its first verdicts after 18 civil liberties, the majority of whom were subjected to grave abuses, four of whom were still forcibly disappeared. 7 were sentenced to seven years in prison and their nationality was revoked.
